Chamomile in pregnancy - good, contraindications and risks of use

We used to use chamomile for children and the elderly, externally and internally, with a preventive and curative purpose and even simply because it smells nice and has a wonderful taste.

Therefore, for many women, the question of treatment during pregnancy is not at all: if a chamomile can help, it is primarily addressed to it. But what is our surprise when on the package we suddenly read that during the period of gestation the use of chamomile is contraindicated. And in general, regarding its use during pregnancy, you can meet a lot of contradictory statements.

So what do you do? Is the chamomile useful for expectant mothers and toddlers or is it a real threat to them?

What is the usefulness of chamomile in pregnancy?

In fact, chamomile is useful and desirable even in such a crucial and difficult period as the bearing of a child. Moreover, when used correctly, it is safe throughout the 9 months of pregnancy. So if you are used to cosmetics based on chamomile (add it to creams, rinse your hair with hair, rub your face skin) or like to pamper yourself with a cup of aromatic chamomile tea - be absolutely calm. And if before you were indifferent to the daisy, then we advise to make friends with her. After all, for a future mother, she can do a good job. Here is an incomplete list of what can be useful pharmacy chamomile during pregnancy:

  • Soothes the nervous system: a great way to relieve stress, overexcitement, overcome apathy or depression.
  • It saves the pain: gastric spasms, headaches and other pains will also help to remove chamomile tea.
  • Helps with bloating, excessive gas formation, constipation.
  • Capable of removing signs of toxicosis, in particular nausea.

  • For diseases and inflammations of the genitals, you can use decoctions and infusions from chamomile for washing, douches, compresses and baths.

  • Chamomile broth

    One of the most common "chamomile" remedy is the decoction of the flowers of a medicinal plant. It is useful for normalizing the work of the nervous system, the gastrointestinal tract, and also has pronounced antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

    Prepare a decoction of chamomile is not difficult:

    1. Pour half a liter of purified water 20 g of dried chamomile flowers and put on a small fire. After 5 minutes, turn off, cover and let stand for 15 minutes. Strain before use.
    2. Pour 4 tablespoons of chamomile flowers into a glass of boiling water and put on a slow fire, covering it with a lid. After half an hour, remove the broth from the fire, open the lid and let it cool down for 10 minutes. Strain and apply as needed. Store the broth should be in the refrigerator, but not more than 2 days.

    Chamomile infusion

    An even easier way to prepare chamomile is her infusion. This tool can also be used inside and outside:

    • Pour one teaspoon of boiling water with 2 teaspoons of chamomile flowers and leave to infuse for 3 hours. It is convenient to do this in a thermos. Strain before use.

    Take infusion of chamomile is best in a warm form. However, do not forget that infusions and decoctions of medicinal plants have a very wide range of applications. Inward ingestion is just one way of taking advantage of a natural medicine chest.

    Chamomile rinse

    Simply chamomile can be an indispensable tool in the period of epidemics of ARVI, especially in the first trimester, when any medicines are prohibited for use by future moms.

    If you have the slightest feeling of discomfort or perspiration in your throat, rinse it with chamomile broth as often as possible - optimally approximately every 2 hours. With more in the throat, rinsing with chamomile is also very well helped and is a safe way of treatment during the period of gestation.

    You can gargle with a decoction and infusion - cooked according to any of the recipes. Also, these funds can and should be used for various diseases of the mouth, gums and teeth - chamomile disinfects the foci of bacterial reproduction and promotes faster healing of mucous and dermal surfaces.

    Camomile douches

    Many women use chamomile, preparing solutions for syringing in a complex treatment for various urinary infections and inflammations. But during pregnancy such therapy is contraindicated - regardless of the substance used, douching is not recommended to pregnant women, as it can provoke increased uterine activity and lead to miscarriage.

    But there is an alternative - sessile tubs with chamomile. They are especially useful for hemorrhoids and inflammations of the vagina, but there are some caveats: first, the water should not be hot (all for the same reason of possible tonus), and secondly, before using this method of treatment, it is still necessary to consult a doctor.

    Contraindications

    As you can see, the spectrum of the action of the chemist's chamomile is very wide, so do not forget about it during the period of bearing a child and especially refuse to use this wonderful plant.

    But for the removal of chamomile only benefit, you should use it competently. With regard to the external application, only individual intolerance of the plant can cause concern. But with the adoption of broths and teas inward, one must be extremely cautious. In particular, chamomile can cause allergic reactions in the form of skin eruptions and itching, in rare cases, intolerance of the plant is observed in the form of weakness and headaches, irritability and attacks of aggression.

    Care should be taken when using chamomile inwards with increased acidity of the stomach and a tendency to diarrhea. And with an anacid gastritis it is better to completely stop using it.

    Is it possible to drink chamomile during pregnancy

    As for pure chamomile tea, it is necessary to make a weak infusion and not abuse. A future mother can afford no more than two glasses of such a drink per day, but it is better to not reach the maximum, and drink light tea from chamomile occasionally, from time to time. Excessive use of chamomile inside can respond to you with an increased tone of the uterus and premature birth. All because chamomile broths and infusions contribute to the production of estrogens, which actually lead the uterus into tone, causing a threat of miscarriage.

    To avoid this, just do not abuse chamomile teas. And always pay attention to the composition of herbal remedies during pregnancy: in addition to chamomile, they can contain a number of "dangerous" plants.
