Colitis in pregnancy

Colitis in pregnancy - causes and ways of treatment

What is colitis?

Colitis is inflammation of the mucous membrane of the large intestine. Often this disease is not independent, but "goes in pairs" with an inflammatory lesion of the small intestine (enterocolitis) and stomach (gastroenterocolitis).

In most cases, colitis is characterized by bowel pain and problems with stools. Exercises have a characteristic fetid smell, liquid, with an admixture of mucus. With superficial palpation, the patient feels the soreness of the abdominal wall, which is located along the course of the colon.

Colitis in pregnant women can be caused by different reasons. For example, it could be an infection (bacterial, viral, fungal), or it may be an allergy. It happens that the reception of certain medications leads to this state.

Colitis can be as sharp (accompanied by rumbling, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, lack of appetite), and chronic (develops after acute and leaks more sluggishly). If the cause of colitis is an infectious disease, an increase in body temperature is possible.

Nutrition in the treatment of colitis

Observance of a special diet is one of the important aspects in the treatment of colitis in pregnant women. The diet prescribed by suffering colitis is called No. 4. In this case, you can not consume cabbage, legumes, fresh bread, sweets. In general, a pregnant woman should avoid all those products that can cause increased fermentation in the intestines, flatulence. In addition, all foods and dishes that are capable of traumatizing the intestinal wall are removed from the diet. Such foods include hard-to-digest products, spicy dishes, too cold or too hot food. If a pregnant woman is diagnosed with colitis, she should forget about fat meat and fish, smoked foods and canned food for a certain time (which is undesirable in pregnancy!), Baking, fried and boiled eggs, fat broths. The same rule applies to sweet fruit.

From what you can eat, you should note "yesterday's" wheat bread, boiled meat, low-fat fish, soft-boiled eggs, buckwheat, rice, semolina, butter, apple sauce. You can drink tea, currant broths, non-acidic, previously diluted with water, juices.

The food should be fractional and include small portions.

Medication of colitis in pregnant women

If you limit your diet and without the advice of a doctor, having read the recommendations from the specialized literature or specialized Internet sites, the treatment with medicinal products should be made only after consultation with the doctor. Self-medication is unacceptable at all, and during pregnancy - even more so. If you experience the symptoms described above, consult a

gastroenterologist. After the diagnosis (for this, first of all, you need to donate blood, feces for analysis), you will be given competent treatment.

When treating colitis during pregnancy, doctors, in most cases, are limited to the appointment of enveloping and adsorbing agents (for example, Smekty, Enterosgel, Activated Carbon). It is also possible to prescribe medications that contain normal intestinal microflora. These include Lineks, Latsidofil. Sometimes they use antispasmodics. If colitis leads to the appearance of anal fissures or hemorrhoids, prescribe rectal suppositories (for example, Natalside).
