Diagnosis of infertility in women

Diagnosis of infertility in women

Where to start?

If you want couples to have children, it is recommended to start diagnostic activities with your husband. After all, male infertility is easier to diagnose, cheaper and faster. And when it really is confirmed that the man is healthy, then the woman needs to be surveyed.

Today, infertility is divided into primary (the woman has never become pregnant), secondary (the woman had a pregnancy), absolute (impossibility to conceive a child due to anomalies of reproductive organs).

The first and second species are successfully treated today, because infertility has become a separate branch of medicine. And doctors who work in this direction, go through specialized training, constantly improve their qualifications in order to know the new directions of diagnosis and treatment of the current problem. Therefore, contact a medical center, a clinic that specializes in infertility, to doctors who have a successful experience of overcoming the problem.

Anamnesis collection

Diagnosis of female infertility begins with a visit to the gynecologist. Anamnesis collection is the clarification of information about the history of life together and methods of contraception, if any; the presence of past pregnancies, their outcomes; common diseases; use of drugs and postoperative surgeries, in particular abortions.

The doctor separately will stop especially on female illnesses - inflammatory illnesses, problems with a neck of the uterus, mammary glands, will ask about the nature of the menstrual cycle. The doctor will ask the working conditions and the regime of women's workloads, heredity, harmful habits, nutrition. A gynecological examination of a woman is also mandatory.

Assignment of tests, studies

After examining and collecting an anamnesis, a gynecologist will prescribe a test for infections that are sexually transmitted; a blood test for female and male hormones, as well as a thyroid gland.

It will be necessary to pass a smear from the cervical canal and an analysis on the human papilloma virus.

Ultrasonic diagnosis of pelvic organs is necessary in order to exclude gynecological diseases and developmental anomalies. In addition, it is sometimes suggested to make hysterosalpingography. This is called the x-ray of the small pelvis, which is done after the introduction of contrast material into the uterus. It makes it possible to assess the relief and size of the mucosa, the functional state of the fallopian tubes, and their patency. This examination is carried out on the 6-7 day from the beginning of the menstrual cycle.

Sometimes, to clarify the diagnosis, a woman is laparoscopy. It is an operation with the introduction into the abdominal cavity of a tool equipped with optics, for obtaining exhaustive information about the condition of the genital organs.

In modern infertility treatment clinics, women are also given a radiograph of the skull to exclude tumors of the pituitary gland as a cause of infertility.

In such medical institutions, the so-called postcoital test is also conducted. This is an analysis of the compatibility of the cervical mucus of a woman and the sperm of a man. Such a study is done a few hours after intercourse.

An analysis is also made of antisperm antibodies in the female body, the definition of karyotypes of partners.

As you can see, the list of analyzes and surveys is large. But in order for the diagnosis to be accurate, and the subsequent treatment - the most effective, a woman already at the stage of the history should be as frank with the doctor. Do not hide information that, in your opinion, is shameful. This may concern the way of life in the past, hereditary diseases, noticed changes in the body.

What looks like a small thing to you can immediately push a doctor to a preliminary diagnosis. A competent specialist will use all the information he receives for purely therapeutic purposes.
