Causes of pelvic presentation of the fetus
Pelvic presentation of the fetus during pregnancy can be due to several factors. One of the main reasons doctors call a decrease in the tone and excitability of the uterus. Also, the reasons for pelvic presentation are polyhydramnios, malignancy and anomalies in the development of the uterus, placenta previa, and some developmental defects of the fetus. Pelvic presentation can be gluteal, foot, mixed, knee - each of them the doctor easily diagnoses during normal examination, after which it will be necessary to confirm the ultrasound. Pelvic presentation is not an entirely normal situation for both the baby and the mother - although there are no direct major threats.
Although natural births with pelvic presentation of the fetus are possible, but still often the indications for delivery are cesarean section. If the birth also occurs naturally, then constant and strengthened monitoring of the physician is necessary - births from pelvic presentation are often accompanied by complications.
Symptoms of pelvic fetal presentation
Physically, if there is a pelvic presentation of the fetus, the woman of this pathology does not feel at all. It is not disturbed by any painful symptoms or discomfort, which can clearly signal the "wrong" position of the baby in the uterus.
Pelvic presentation can only be determined by examinations. So, with pelvic presentation, experts note a higher standing of the uterine fundus above the pubis, which does not correspond to the term of pregnancy. The heartbeat of the fetus in the navel area or slightly above it to the right or to the left (depending on the position of the fetus) is heard distinctly.
Also, signs of pelvic presentation of the fetus reveal themselves during a vaginal examination. For example, with a breech presentation, a soft volumetric part, inguinal fold, coccyx and sacrum are palpated. With the adjacent gluteal and foot presentation, you can determine the feet of a toddler with a calcaneal tubercle and short fingers (other than fingers) located on the same line. To clarify the diagnosis, however, ultrasound will also be used.
Exercises for pelvic presentation of the fetus
"Give" the baby a head position in the tummy can be with the help of special gymnastic exercises. You can use them, starting from 32-34 weeks of pregnancy - after consultation with your doctor. Gymnastic exercises assume the turns of the future mother in the prone position from one side to the other: 3-4 times approximately every 7-10 minutes. This exercise is carried out 2-3 times a day. You can also conduct an exercise that involves lifting the pelvis: lying on your back, you should put a roller under your waist (you can use ordinary pillows) so that the pelvis is above the head by 20-30 centimeters. In this position, you need to stay between 5 and 15 minutes, but no more. Exercise is carried out 2-3 times a day on an empty stomach. Contraindications for the performance of such gymnastics are scars on the uterus from any operations, placenta previa, late toxicosis. He offers his methods for pelvic presentation and alternative medicine, for example, acupuncture, homeopathy, aromatherapy.
If the above methods did not bring the desired results, the future mummy may be offered an external turning of the fetus. This procedure is carried out approximately on 34-37 week of pregnancy, necessarily in a hospital with monitoring, ultrasound observation and using special medications that relax the uterus. A successful external coup will make it possible later to deliver in a natural way, but since this procedure is rather difficult, and also has many contraindications (scar on the uterus, obesity, the age of the primipara is more than 30 years, gestosis, umbilical cord entanglement), it is not suitable for every pregnant woman and produces it quite rarely.
Births with pelvic presentation of the fetus
If the pelvic presentation has not been resolved by any of the methods, this should not become an excuse for the disorder. In this case, a pregnant woman will be recommended to go to an obstetric hospital: after all the necessary examinations, the method of delivery will be chosen.
Without any serious contraindications, birth can occur naturally - under the constant supervision of a doctor. If natural birth is not possible, a cesarean section will be required. Indications for cesarean section with pelvic presentation are large fetus (more than 3, 5 kilograms), the presence of a scar on the uterus, a narrow pelvis in a pregnant woman, placenta previa, presentation in the foot or mixed position.
