Solovyov's index during pregnancy

Solovyov's index during pregnancy - what is it?

What is the Solovyov index

The Solovyov index is called the wrist circumference in its thinnest place. This circle is an indicator of the type of build and structure of human bones. There are several types of human physique, depending on the above index.

  1. Asthenic. This type is characterized by a Soloviev index less than 15 cm in women and less than 18 in men. These are the so-called thin-boned people, whose longitudinal dimensions predominate over the transverse ones. Such people have long limbs and a neck, thin bones, weak development of muscles.
  2. Normosthenic. In women of this type, Soloviev's index is 15-17 cm and 18-20 cm for men. The constitution of such a person is proportional to the correct ratio of all parameters.
  3. Hypersthenic. With this type of physique in women, Solovyov's index is more than 17 cm, for men - more than 20 cm. These are people with a proportional body structure. However, such people are called broad-boned. They have transverse body dimensions larger than longitudinal ones. That is, these people have thick and heavy bones, shoulders and chest. They are also characterized by wide hips and short legs.

The influence of Solovyov's index on childbirth

So, it is now clear that Solovyov's index is, to some extent, a characteristic of a person's figure. We are more interested in a female figure and an estimation of the type of her physique, and specifically speaking - the thickness of the bones of her pelvis. The circumference of the wrist is measured by an ordinary centimeter tape and, accordingly, the width of the pelvic bones of a pregnant woman is determined. So, with the normostenic type, one can speak of its fine bones, with hypersthenic type - of thick, massive bones of the pelvis.

It has long been noticed that women who have thin bones and give birth easier. If we talk about visual perception, then thin and long fingers, thin waist and slender legs are just an indicator of the fineness of the bones of their possessor. When a woman has thin bones, then they are all over the body, and in the pelvic region too. A narrow wrist (less than 15 centimeters) means that the pelvic bones of a woman are also very thin.

Taking into account the fact that every centimeter of free space of the woman's pelvis is very important for the advancement of the future baby, the thickness of the bones of the female pelvis is very important.

That is why the obstetrician-gynecologists Solovyov's index allows you to evaluate the features of the physique of a pregnant woman and thus to presume how she will give birth to a child.

If we compare the external obstetric dimensions of the pelvis of two women, then the internal volume of the small pelvis sometimes differs by 0. 5-1.5 centimeters, depending on the type of build. Of course, in a thin-skinned lady of asthenic type, the pelvic cavity will be greater, because her bones take up less space.

It should be taken into account that the index of Soloviev in future mothers is not a component of the figure's characteristics, but merely estimates the structure of the bones. A woman can have a weight of 100 kilograms and at the same time have thin bones, and possibly the opposite. At a weight of 50 kg the bone can be massive. This means that a woman can not give birth to a large fetus herself and, perhaps, will need the use of a caesarean section.

It should be emphasized that in our time doctors are increasingly giving less attention to Solovyov's index in a comprehensive assessment of a pregnant woman. Thanks to ultrasound, it became possible to determine the chances of independent delivery or indications for caesarean section. So the Soloviev index is now not a determining factor for future births.
