Osteochondrosis is a disease that should be treated urgently before the onset of pregnancy. If a woman has problems with the lower back, before conception she needs to consult an orthopedic specialist. If she also had a scoliosis, then to consult with the doctor is doubly necessary. But what if the osteochondrosis first appeared when the pregnancy has already occurred? What methods and medicines can cope with the disease? But is it possible at all? Let's find out!
Osteochondrosis is ...
... a disease, as a result of which the articular cartilages lose their elastic properties, can completely collapse and expose the bone. Osteochondrosis can affect any joints, but most often the spine "suffers" from it. Osteochondrosis of the spine is divided into cervical, thoracic and lumbar, respectively, the departments in which the disease is localized. When osteochondrosis changes the structure of intervertebral discs, as a result of which there is an infringement of nerves, squeezing of blood vessels, the structure of the vertebrae itself is disrupted.
This disease occurs due to metabolic disorders, incorrect posture, flat feet and physical exertion on the spine.
When pregnancy is most often manifested osteochondrosis of the cervical and lumbar spine. Cervical osteochondrosis causes inconvenience of the pregnant blunt aching pain in the neck, aggravated after the load. Often, chest osteochondrosis is first taken for cardiovascular or gastrointestinal diseases. That's why they diagnose it and start treating it when the disease is already progressing.
Methods of treatment of osteochondrosis in pregnancy
Unfortunately, drugs successfully used to treat osteochondrosis, when pregnancy is prohibited. It is proved that they can adversely affect the development of the fetus and the course of pregnancy. But how to be? In such cases, non-drug use is resorted to. Since often the cause of exacerbation or the appearance of osteochondrosis during pregnancy becomes an increased burden on the spine, one of the methods for alleviating the condition of a woman is wearing a bandage that minimizes the burden on the spine (except for bandages, it is recommended to wear other orthopedic products: corsets, special shoes) special physical therapy.
As a rule, an attack of osteochondrosis is removed with the help of manual therapy. But can this method be used to treat women who are in an interesting situation? Most doctors say that it is impossible, as this can provoke premature birth. But their opponents are sure that if they do not carry out such treatment, then the threat of miscarriage becomes even more real. The fact is that pain in the spine causes tension of the pelvic muscles and ileal muscles, the pathological impulse of which gives signals to various parts of the central nervous system and, thereby, violates the coordinated work of the nervous and endocrine systems. This is a violation of the hormonal balance. All these signs can lead to a reflex increase in the tone of the uterus, and, consequently, to the termination of pregnancy.
To avoid this, it is necessary to remove hypertension of the iliac and gluteus muscles. A competent doctor, if he takes up this matter, can help a pregnant woman much faster than pills, injections, ointments (which, in turn, carry an additional danger to the mother and baby). Nevertheless, the statement that in the second half of pregnancy the conduct of manual therapy is unsafe, has the right to exist. Therefore, in order to prevent a critical situation, try to resolve all issues before the pregnancy. Moreover, the presence of osteochondrosis can significantly affect the method of delivery. Often, with lesions in the lumbar, pelvic and sacral parts of the spine, doctors recommend a cesarean section.
In uncomplicated stages of this disease, treatment with the help of receptions and recipes of traditional medicine is possible. It is a question of warming compresses on the neck area. For compresses use decoctions of various herbs: burdock, parsley, St. John's wort, dandelion root. Dampened in a decoction of cotton wool or napkin should be applied for 15-20 minutes, covering with cellophane and wrapping a warm towel. At the initial stages of cervical osteochondrosis, the heating of the affected area with a bag of hot sand or the application of pepper plaster is successfully used.
To reduce the possible additional burden on the spine, you must adhere to simple rules. For example, during ironing, you need to monitor your posture, stand flat, without bending. To do this, set the ironing board to the maximum height. Also, avoid bending your back when washing and cleaning the room. If you work at a computer for a long time, take breaks and perform gymnastics more often.
