Toxicosis of pregnant women
More than half of all pregnant women experience nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. In this case, most likely future mothers vomit in the mornings, but the rest of the day also happens. Morning vomiting during pregnancy together with salivation is the most common manifestation of toxicosis. Phenomenon, of course, the most unpleasant, but, according to the results of American studies, it can be regarded as a good sign: vomiting during pregnancy indicates its normal course, say American scientists. Their studies have shown that women who experience nausea and vomiting during pregnancy have a great chance of successful bearing, while non-toxic future mums often experience miscarriages. Just in case, I note that if you do not vomit, it does not mean that things are bad. Rather, on the contrary: vomiting during pregnancy is not a cause for concern, more precisely is not always.
There are several degrees of severity of vomiting during pregnancy. In the overwhelming majority of cases, women face the mildest degree, when vomiting occurs up to 4 times a day. At the same time, despite obvious discomfort, the future mother does not experience obvious health problems associated with vomiting. This state does not harm the future baby.
It would seem that this unpleasant phenomenon is well enough studied. However, it is not known why the pregnant woman is vomiting. Doctors only suggest some causes of toxicosis, the most likely of which seems to be hormonal restructuring in the body of a woman.
How to ease the condition?
And let the causes of toxicosis have not been studied enough, every woman is interested in how to stop vomiting during pregnancy? Often, the condition can be alleviated by slightly changing their daily habits. Begin with the awakening itself. It is the morning for many pregnant women that can be hardest to endure. If you vomit strongly in the morning, then learn to coax your stomach before getting out of bed. It can be a dry biscuit or crackers and a few sips of water - cook them again in the evening to have a snack in the morning, without getting out of bed. Rise only after some time, so that everything "lay down". And to lie better in a semi-sitting position, lifting the upper part of the body.
In general, when vomiting during pregnancy, it is extremely important not to starve and consume enough fluids. It's only with the use of water and food that there are often problems: everything immediately comes back. Doctors call pregnant women in such cases have only the desired dishes, but certainly fractional: literally for a little, but quite often. It is better to exclude all fried, hot, smoked and other aggressive food (although, most likely, she and so you are disgusted with) and choose as snacks something light: vegetables, fruits, sour-milk drinks. For breakfast, protein (an egg or a piece of boiled low-fat meat) is good. Try to introduce into your diet vitamins of group B, especially vitamin B6 (or pyridoxine) - it is able to eliminate nausea and prevent vomiting. Pyridoxine is found in whole grains, buckwheat, sprouted wheat, potatoes, carrots, cabbage, bananas, hazelnuts, peanuts, walnuts, sunflower seeds, chicken, fish. Vitamin B6 is also sold as a drug in the pharmacy. However, before using it, consult with your doctor (the recommended dose for pregnant women is no more than 25 mg 3-4 times a day).
In toxicosis, the first dishes are useful - light soups and broths. Liquid warm food, as a rule, with gratitude is taken by the stomach.
If drinking during pregnancy causes you to vomit, then try to suck ice cubes. Drinking in this case is best between meals, and not at the time, in small sips and portions. Find a way to deliver fluids to your body, as this is extremely important! Many pregnant women with vomiting help to alleviate the condition of ginger drinks and the addition of lemon in tea or mineral water. Replenish the deficiency of electrolytes will help special solutions (for example, Regidron), also populated chicken broth.
Aromatherapy can also help. The easiest, quickest and most harmless way is to cut the lemon and enjoy the citrus aroma. It is believed that it eliminates nausea and can stop vomiting. Essential oils of citrus fruits can also be used, but here it is better to consult with a knowledgeable practitioner.
When to beat the alarm?
Experts say that only 8-10% of women experiencing nausea and experiencing vomiting during pregnancy need medical attention. These are pregnant women, who develop an average and especially severe degree of vomiting. In addition, that the future mother can not eat and provide the growing fetus with the necessary substances, she is still rapidly losing the resources accumulated by the body, which do not have time to be replenished. Violated water-electrolyte balance, comes intoxication and dehydration, which is very dangerous for both.
You should definitely consult a doctor if:
- vomiting is repeated more than 6 times a day or does not stop at all;
- you started losing weight (more than 3 kg in 10-14 days);
- the amount of urine decreased, and it darkened;
- you experience dry mouth and a constant thirst;
- skin, the mucous membranes of the eyes and mouth become dry;
- the reaction became inhibited;
- you always feel fatigue and impotence;
- you lose consciousness;
- you smell acetone from the mouth;
- body temperature increased;
- blood pressure is reduced;
- heartbeat rapid (more than 80 beats per minute).
In this case, the doctor will refer you to inpatient treatment. In most cases, the condition of a woman is facilitated by intravenous administration of drugs that stop intoxication and compensate for the loss of fluid and nutrients. Antiemetics are treated less often due to the high probability of their teratogenic effects on the fetus.
If the measures taken by the medical staff do not help and vomiting does not stop, the doctor may decide to terminate the pregnancy. But in practice, this is extremely rare. As a rule, all future mothers independently cope with toxicosis. However, if you feel bad, then notify the leading gynecologist will not be superfluous, even if the condition is not critical. It should also be noted that vomiting during pregnancy is not always a sign of toxicosis. This may include food poisoning, for example, or some disease of internal organs (gastritis, ulcers, cholelithiasis, pancreatitis and others). Therefore, in any case, notify your doctor that you are feeling bad - he will help to establish the correct diagnosis and to ease your condition.
Of course, most likely, you do not have the strength to endure fits of vomiting and exhausting nausea. But after 12 weeks of business should go on the amendment. Ask for work leave or take a sick leave if vomiting during pregnancy becomes an obstacle to the performance of your duties. Do not be afraid to ask for support and help from relatives: let them take care of all household chores and cooking, if due to poor health you can not do this.
Remember: Vomiting during pregnancy is experienced by more than 50% of all women. And this is not the worst "side effect". Have patience and courage: very soon it will become easier - and you can enjoy this wonderful period of your life! Keep your nose high!
