When can I get pregnant after giving birth?
The answer is stunning - less than a month later: physicians officially declare that a new pregnancy may well overtake a "newly minted" woman in labor already 3-4 weeks after the birth of the child. Average, the first two weeks after childbirth the woman continues to have postpartum discharge from the vagina: the process of self-purification of the uterus. And for this period, and for some time after the end of the discharge, specialists recommend generally to refrain from sexual contacts - the woman's body needs restoration: now the maternity system of the mother is very vulnerable to infections. After completing the discharge and in case of thoughts about the resumption of sexual life, doctors are strongly advised to first be examined by a gynecologist - the doctor will assess the degree of recovery of the reproductive system and advise the most acceptable method of contraception.
The opinion that a new pregnancy is impossible in the absence of menstruation is erroneous: the first ovulation after birth can occur long before the onset of menstruation. In this way, repeated pregnancy becomes a reality; moreover, a woman may even not know about her offensive for some time because of the absence of "classic" pregnancy symptoms.
The "alternative" method of protection, such as breastfeeding, does not guarantee either. From many young ladies you can hear the opinion that the lactation period and associated amenorrhea (absence of menstruation) is an obstacle to a new conception. This is in part true, but only partially. The fact is that the method of "lactational amenorrhea" works only if the mother feeds the child according to a certain scheme and does not give the baby a supplement. This method works only if the mother gives the baby to the breast regularly and each feeding - once every 3 hours and once at night, with a break between day and night feeding no more than 6 hours. The effectiveness of the "lactational amenorrhea" method is estimated at about 97% - and only if all the necessary conditions are met. Otherwise, even a nursing mother, if she gives the baby a supplement and feeds him on schedule, and not on demand, without additional contraception, risks falling back into the lactation period again.
When to plan a new pregnancy?
According to the recommendations of doctors, the break between the previous and subsequent pregnancy should be at least 1, 5-2 years. Even after 6-8 months, and even one year after delivery, a new pregnancy poses a certain danger. During the period of gestation, the body experienced enormous loads, and if pregnancy occurs soon after childbirth, the risk of miscarriage, the development of various diseases in a woman, the risk of premature birth. If the delivery was performed by the method of cesarean section, then the interval between pregnancies is even greater - the next child should be planned not earlier than in 2-2, 5 years: the scar on the uterus should fully heal, and the female organism - fully recover.
Some women can breastfeed a child for a long time - even after a year or more. You should not hurry with pregnancy, while the lactation process lasts: on the background of the onset of conception, milk usually either disappears or its quantity decreases significantly. Another option is possible - breast milk under the influence of hormonal changes associated with pregnancy, so changes its taste that the child simply refuses to breast. But, if pregnancy did occur in the lactation period, the baby does not refuse breastfeeding, doctors advise to wean him from his breast. And because new strains are associated with the new pregnancy, and in connection with the production of the hormone oxytocin when exposed to the nipple, which causes uterine contractions and increases the risk of abortion.
A new pregnancy - it's better not to hurry
A small baby during the first year of life is in dire need of mother's caress, in parental care and care. After the birth of the baby, a strong connection is established between the crumb and the mother, a certain system of interaction "mother-child" is developed. A new pregnancy already in a short time immediately after childbirth is not only an incredible load on the female organism that has not yet gained strength, but also that factor, which can disrupt the optimal system of mother-infant interaction. Now he needs a full-fledged care and every minute attention, and Mom - time for recovery and full awareness of motherhood and related responsibilities.
It is not for nothing that people say: "Whoever is in a hurry - he makes people laugh". And in the case of repeated pregnancy almost immediately after birth, this laughter is most likely not at all joyous, but bitter. Therefore, do not neglect the advice of specialists, and after the completion of postpartum excretions, on the eve of the resumption of intimate life, it is better to visit a doctor. Together with a gynecologist, a woman will be able to choose the optimal contraceptive option that will prevent unwanted pregnancies at this stage and allow her to return to her husband's embrace. Fortunately, the choice of contraceptives, which can be used after the birth of a child, is very large: from "traditional" condoms - to the uterine spiral.
