Why sick when pregnant

Why does it make me sick when I'm pregnant and what should I do?

It's no secret that during pregnancy in a woman's body there are revolutionary changes, so morning sickness is not a disease, but a typical manifestation of toxicosis in pregnancy. As a rule, the first signs of toxicosis a woman can feel already in the first days of pregnancy. And attacks of nausea can happen both after waking up, and throughout the day.

There is a theory that nausea during pregnancy is due to an elevated level of hormones. However, it is important to know that the malnutrition before conception, the inflammatory diseases of the genitals and uterus, as well as endocrine and neurological disorders can also become the main cause of nausea in pregnancy. Moreover, to exacerbate the "picture" of toxicosis can emotional experiences and stresses, factors that weaken the body, colds and lack of sleep.

We all know that during pregnancy a sense of smell is sharply increased in a woman, which can also cause a nausea attack. Especially sharply reacts the pregnant body to perfume, dust, a sharp smell of fish, etc.

Doctors note with a degree of toxicosis of pregnant women:

  • mild toxicity is determined by vomiting before 4- 5 times a day and a little weight loss. At this degree of toxicosis, hospitalization is not required. Treatment usually consists of selecting an individual diet;
  • a moderate degree of toxicosis manifests itself vomiting up to 10 times a day, which is accompanied by weakness, increased weight loss, sometimes increased body temperature, rapid pulse, decreased pressure. In this case, the doctor can prescribe medications that do not harm the child, an individual diet and other recommendations;
  • High degree of toxicosis - vomiting up to 20 times a day, weight loss up to 3 kg per week, severe dehydration. Here, hospital treatment is required, since toxicosis of this degree leads to a rapid loss of fluid and the substances necessary for the normal development of the fetus.

Note that high toxicosis is rare. Moreover, the nausea of ??a pregnant woman does not in any way mean that the child is also nauseous. After all, as a rule, nausea in pregnant women occurs on an empty stomach and passes after you fill it, even with a small amount of food.

How to deal with nausea during pregnancy

The most effective way to combat nausea during pregnancy is to follow a diet and a healthy lifestyle. In this case, do not necessarily be limited to the recommendations of a doctor - you can independently choose those products that ease the condition. Moreover, if you suffer from nausea in the first trimester of pregnancy, then limit physical activity and try to rest as much as possible. Walking in the fresh air, frequent meals in small portions, and access to fresh air at home - all this will greatly ease the unpleasant state of nausea.

As for doctors, they recommend to pregnant women, who suffer from toxicosis, make it a rule to have breakfast in bed prepared from the evening with your favorite fruit or apple. After breakfast do not rush to get up, and lie down a bit to reduce the manifestation of nausea.

Foods rich in protein will help reduce the manifestations of toxicosis. But sweet fruit, sweets and rolls, fatty and spicy food only provoke nausea. Also, make sure that the food is not too hot, or, conversely, cold. This also significantly affects the manifestation of toxicosis.

With severe nausea, you can drink tea with lemon or a few mouthfuls of mineral water. Herbal teas and decoctions of mint leaves, valerian, calendula and yarrow also help to overcome nausea during pregnancy. Pour 2 spoons of herbs with two glasses of boiling water, let it brew, strain and take three times a day for 50 ml.

Take care and be healthy!
