Applications of Puregon in preparation for IVF

The drug is prescribed to treat infertile couples with diseases of the hypothalamic-pituitary system, as well as in the absence of ovulation in women. In the protocols of IVF, ICID and VMI, Puregon is used to obtain several oocytes. If a man is diagnosed with reduced activity of the sexual glands, this drug is also used.

Puregon is produced in two forms: lyophilizate together with a solvent or a ready solution in a vial or cartridge. The dosage of the drug is different, so each patient is prescribed an individual medication. It is administered intramuscularly or subcutaneously.

For self-use of the drug, it is recommended to use solutions in cartridges containing the necessary dosage for single-dose administration. Such a cartridge is injected subcutaneously with a pen, which can be purchased at the pharmacy in addition. One handle is designed for 300 injections.

If you purchased ampoules with an active substance, it is administered intramuscularly. In this case, the medicine can be used only after the appointment of a doctor.

Treatment scheme for Puregon in preparation for IVF

First, 150-225 IU of the drug is administered once a day for four days (on the second or third day of the menstrual cycle). Further, the dosage is 75-375 IU six to twelve days, until the follicles start to ripen in the ovaries, which can be determined by the results of a daily ultrasound. After a positive ovarian response, the necessary dosage of the drug is administered before the preovulation or appearance of three or more follicles with a diameter of 18 mm is introduced, and the concentration of estradiol in the blood is raised to 1000-1300 pmol / l. After this result is achieved, the HCG preparation is given for ovulation.

After the introduction of HCG, egg collection is performed after 34-35 hours.

The first time Puregan is used in the presence of a doctor. In this case, stimulation of ovulation with the help of this drug is effective in the first 4 courses. Further, the effectiveness of the drug is significantly reduced.

Contraindications and side effects

As with any other medication, Puregon has side effects. They can appear as follows:

  • the onset of multiple pregnancies resulting from the production of several oocytes;
  • the risk of developing an ectopic pregnancy due to problems with the fallopian tubes;
  • malformations of the fetus;
  • the risk of thrombotic complications in women with obesity and thrombophilia;
  • Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome;
  • manifestation of an allergic reaction.

To avoid the development of side effects, you need to regularly undergo the necessary examination with a doctor. It is by no means impossible to cancel the drug itself, as this can lead to serious pathological conditions.

As for contraindications to the use of Puregon, among them it is necessary to distinguish:

  • the pregnancy that has already come;
  • the period of breastfeeding;
  • Diseases of the thyroid gland, adrenal glands and pituitary gland.

We draw your attention to the fact that this drug is incompatible with alcohol, so their simultaneous use is unacceptable.
