Examination of the gynecologist during pregnancy

Examination of the gynecologist during pregnancy - how often?

The frequency of visits to a gynecologist during pregnancy, in the first place, will depend on the rates of pregnancy. The schedule of meetings with the doctor is always made individually, depending on the woman's well-being, on the results of the examinations and analyzes. If the pregnancy is normal and without abnormalities, After registering the first half of pregnancy a woman will have to visit a gynecologist once a month. Approximately from 28-29 weeks of pregnancy visits are attended: henceforth meetings with the doctor should occur every two weeks. And from week 36 there are weekly visits to the gynecologist.

But this does not mean that every visit to a pregnant woman shows an examination in the gynecological chair: this procedure is mandatory at the first "appointment" and registration, and then 3-4 times during the entire pregnancy. But, again, the schedule of examinations on the chair is strictly individual and can vary: everything will depend on the personal indicators of each pregnant woman.

Examination of the gynecologist during pregnancy - what does it involve?

Examination in the gynecological chair - although important for diagnosis and control procedure, but not the only one that suggests meetings with the doctor. So, if the "internal examination" is provided only a few times during the entire pregnancy, every woman is expected to have several other examinations. This - the measurement of blood pressure and pulse measurement, weighing, at the first visit also measuring the pelvis. From 14-15 weeks of pregnancy the doctor will also measure the abdominal circumference and the height of the standing of the uterus. From the same moment, the specialist will also listen to the heart of the baby - from 14-15 weeks, the heartbeat is heard already in an ordinary stethoscope. At each meeting, palpation, or palpation, abdomen - with the aim of determining the tone of the uterus and the location of the fetus is mandatory. And, of course, according to the testimony, several times during pregnancy the doctor will conduct an internal examination.

How is the internal examination?

The woman will be invited to the gynecological chair after preliminary weighing and measuring blood pressure, and also after examination on the couch. During the examination, do not be shy and tense - this is the standard procedure that every pregnant woman undergoes. And, the freer the woman herself will feel, the easier the doctor will examine her.

The internal examination takes place in "two stages", if I may say so: first the gynecologist examines the pregnant woman with the use of mirrors, then a manual examination is provided. In any case, everything begins with an assessment of the condition of the external genital organs: skin, mucous perineum, small and large labia, urethra. Also, the doctor will examine the surface of the thighs - for varicose veins, for the same purpose, the area of ??the anus is inspected (in order to detect the presence of hemorrhoids and cracks of other disorders in time).

Next comes a study with mirrors: a special device that keeps the vagina open. During this procedure, the doctor assesses the condition of the uterus and determines the absence or presence of vaginal diseases. In addition, the physician draws attention to the nature of the discharge (bloody are a symptom of the threat of pregnancy, cloudy or with an unpleasant odor indicate infection), takes a smear on the flora and a cytological examination. A smear on the flora is selected at each examination on a gynecological chair - its laboratory study excludes a possible inflammatory process and some infections (candidiasis, trichomoniasis, gonorrhea). A smear for cytology, as a rule, is taken at the beginning and at the end of pregnancy, the main task of this study is the study of the features of the structure of the surface and cervical canal cells.

After the examination with mirrors, there is also a so-called two-hand vaginal examination: the gynecologist inserts the middle and right index of the right hand into the vagina, and puts the pregnant woman on the stomach in the vagina. During the two-hand examination, the vaginal condition, the cervix of the uterus (shape, size, consistency, location) is examined, the uterus proper (shape and consistency, the size of the gestation period). Also, the doctor examines the appendages (ovaries and fallopian tubes), and at the end of the examination - the inner surface of the sacrum, lone articulation and lateral walls of the pelvis.

Getting ready for the examination on the chair

With the onset of pregnancy, it is desirable to have a special calendar: to mark the days in which menstruation was before pregnancy. The fact is that on such days an internal examination is undesirable - they are considered dangerous, critical periods for pregnancy.

Knowing about the upcoming vaginal examination, on the eve of the trip to the consultation, you must take a shower. In this case, neither wash with soap nor syringe doctors recommend. One day before the vaginal examination, sexual intercourse should be excluded - the remains of seminal fluid may interfere with an adequate assessment of the vaginal microflora. Before you go to a gynecological chair, you also need to empty the bladder and intestines: even if you have to wait long for your turn at the gynecologist's office, it's better to go to the toilet once more. Well, be sure to go to the examination, you need to purchase an individual kit for a gynecological examination - such kits are now sold in every pharmacy and do not cost a lot of money.
