Is it harmful for pregnancy

Is it harmful during pregnancy for the fetus?

It is not superfluous to recall that the abbreviation of ultrasound is deciphered as an ultrasound study. There is nothing to do with the X-ray apparatus for ultrasound imaging: they are intended for studying the fetus by means of ultrasonic waves, which, reflecting from the tissues of the baby (if the fetus is being examined), display the silhouette on the monitor screen with the help of special programs. Ultrasound examination does not have any harmful effect on humans, although here the mother in the womb can be disturbed. It's all about the thermal effect of ultrasound on the fetus, which, by and large, nothing dangerous, according to the doctors, does not represent.

Still, the question of the dangers of ultrasound during pregnancy is now considered open, as it has not received an unambiguous answer. Some argue that ultrasound to monitor the condition of the fetus is absolutely necessary, and it does not represent any danger to the child. Other scientists insist that ultrasound during pregnancy should be avoided, if not at all, at least not resorting to it unnecessarily, so as not to tempt fate, so to speak. Experiments conducted on animals showed that ultrasonic waves affect the rate of growth and development of the embryo as a whole. But in the case of a person, no purposeful research has been conducted in this area. Although for the entire period of application of the ultrasound method in pregnancy, as experts note, there are no confirmed cases of negative influence of ultrasound on the fetus. Arguing about whether ultrasound is harmful during pregnancy, one can surely say only one thing: if it is carried out according to the testimony, this method of research allows early detection of abnormalities in the development of the fetus or completely exclude them . Thanks to ultrasound, there is an opportunity to determine in time any complications that may be related to the mother's condition - her infectious diseases, stresses. Correct them necessarily, because they represent a real threat to the baby. And in this case ultrasonic research becomes, undoubtedly, very tangible help.

During pregnancy, if it proceeds physiologically, ultrasound is usually performed up to three times. In the early stages - 11-14 weeks of pregnancy - using ultrasound to determine the probability of congenital malformations of the fetus, specify the length of pregnancy and the number of fruits. The second ultrasound in pregnancy, according to the testimony, should be carried out on a period of 20-24 weeks - it gives an opportunity to study the condition and quantity of amniotic fluid, the degree of development of the umbilical cord, exclude the pathology of the fetal organs, and if desired, the parents and establish the sex of the child. The last ultrasound to the future mother is prescribed already at the late stages of pregnancy, almost before the very birth - at 32-34 weeks. During the procedure the doctor assesses the weight of the baby and the degree of its development, the presentation of the baby, the state of the placenta and the location of the umbilical cord.

Many doctors call ultrasound one of the safest modern methods of research of the fetus, which, among other things, greatly facilitates the management of pregnancy. But then they make a reservation - this does not mean that you can use ultrasound as much as the future mother will, motivating your desire to take care of your child. Three ultrasound with normal pregnancy is enough, and go to additional sessions is only if the doctor sees it.
