Why do curettage?
For several reasons. First, to carry out some research. Taken material is very valuable for diagnosis, especially when suspected of certain diseases. In this case, can not only scrape the uterine cavity, but also the cervical canal. Secondly, scraping is done to remove pathological formations, for example, polyps. Thirdly, this operation is sometimes necessary to eliminate complications after an abortion, a miscarriage or (undeveloped) frozen pregnancy.
Scraping can be done in two ways. The first method involves conducting a blind operation. The second involves the use of a special device, through which it becomes possible to examine the walls of the uterus both before and after manipulation.
How does the scraping procedure work?
This operation is not lengthy: it takes about 15-25 minutes. It is carried out under general anesthesia: the anesthesiologist injects the drug intravenously. After the introduction, the woman immediately falls asleep. In order for the cervix to remain stationary, the doctor inserts a gynecological mirror into the vagina and fixes it with a special instrument. Further, the cervix is ??expanded, and then immediately scraped by a tool called a curette. After the procedure is completed, the cervix and vagina are treated with a solution of antiseptics, and ice is placed on the abdomen for the strongest contraction of the uterus and the cessation of bleeding.
When can I get pregnant after scraping?
If a woman was making an artificial termination of pregnancy, which consists in the removal of the fetal egg with simultaneous scraping of the walls of the uterus, the next pregnancy should be planned, taking into account many aspects. For example, the longer the gestation period, the more serious the injury is to the body. From this, as well as on the state of health of a woman, depends on how quickly he will recover. As a result of the abortion, it is possible to develop inflammatory diseases, as well as depletion of the functional layer of the uterus, which, in turn, can lead to infertility, and in the case of pregnancy, to various complications. These include the threat of termination of pregnancy as a result of ischemic-cervical insufficiency or changes in hormonal regulation. In addition, the scraping procedure traumatizes and thinens the endometrium (the inner layer of the uterus), which can lead to incorrect formation of the placenta, the formation of adhesions and, as a result, attachment of the fetal egg in the lower parts of the uterus. All this can cause ectopic pregnancy or development of placenta previa.
Based on the above, the doctor will give "good" for pregnancy 3-6 months after the manipulation.
If the scraping was performed due to spontaneous abortion, that is, miscarriage, or as a result of a frozen pregnancy, then, not only the time for rehabilitation, but also numerous examinations, is necessary before starting new attempts. The fact is that in this case it is very important to establish the cause that led to miscarriage, so that during the next pregnancy it would be possible to avoid a repetition of the situation. Usually, the recovery period in this case is slightly longer from 6 to 12 months. During this time, not only the body of a woman rests, but both spouses can take all the necessary tests. Both - because often the cause of miscarriage can be a violation in the state of health of a man. If, as a result of the examination, a disease is identified that needs to be treated with special potent drugs for a long period, the timing of the next pregnancy may be delayed for the required time. As for the undeveloped pregnancy (the so-called intrauterine fetal death at the term of up to 28 weeks), then, as a rule, there are several reasons: genetic, infectious, endocrine and autoimmune. An adequate amount of time is needed to eliminate these reasons.
