Toothache during pregnancy

How to get rid of toothache during pregnancy?

Toothache is one of the most powerful and unpleasant. During pregnancy, the teeth of a woman become very vulnerable. There may be pain, sensitivity to hot, cold, sweet, various diseases of teeth and gums. Many factors influence this. For example, the lack of vitamins and minerals, the inevitable change in the hormonal background during pregnancy, the violation of metabolic processes in the body, exacerbation of chronic diseases, increased acidity of the oral cavity is possible as a consequence of toxicosis. In addition, during pregnancy, calcium metabolism always changes. Early toxicosis, vomiting, constant nausea and lack of appetite - all this leads to a decrease in calcium intake in the body. At the 6th-7th month of pregnancy, the skeleton of a child begins to grow rapidly. Because of a lack of calcium in the blood, the mother activates the process of resorption of her own bones. And the first to suffer from this are the jaws.

Such factors negatively affect the condition of the oral cavity and can cause caries, which will cause toothache during pregnancy. Caries is a hotbed of infection, very dangerous for a pregnant woman. After all, the infection can get on the blood vessels to any organ and cause a complication of pregnancy. That's why pregnant women should be treated with teeth as early as possible. Often the cause of toothache is gingivitis (inflammation of the gums) or periodontitis (inflammation of the deeper tissues surrounding the tooth). And if the toothache is constant and does not allow to fall asleep, it is a sign of the spread of pulpitis (inflammation of the nerve of the tooth). In this case the pain is acute, spontaneous, paroxysmal character. Only a dentist can determine the exact cause of discomfort. Therefore, at the first signs of toothache that occurred during pregnancy, contact a specialist.

As already mentioned, ideally the oral cavity needs to be sanitized before pregnancy. If the teeth were healed before the "interesting situation" did not work, then the most favorable time for this is the second trimester of pregnancy. In this case, even complex types of dental treatment are allowed. It is absolutely not necessary to suffer from a aching tooth and do not postpone a visit to the dentist. After all, modern methods of treatment, anesthesia can be used for pregnant women, without posing a threat to the future child.

If acute toothache has occurred in the last weeks of pregnancy, women usually do not risk going to the dentist, and completely in vain. An experienced doctor can simply help to relieve a toothache for a while. And the treatment can begin when the woman is ready to carry out the necessary manipulations. If the patient complains of acute pain, the teeth during pregnancy are treated and removed under local anesthesia. Many pregnant women are afraid of the impact of anesthetic on the intrauterine development of the baby. But today, modern dentistry uses a number of drugs that are allowed for women in the position. They qualitatively anesthetize the treatment or removal of the tooth, and do not pass through the placenta into the body of the child. More favorable terms for such manipulations are from the third to the sixth month of pregnancy.

Toothache during pregnancy can be associated with deep periodontal lesions (dense tissue that connects the roots of the teeth with the holes). In this case, the doctor can prescribe a tooth X-ray. Because foci of infection in soft or hard tissues of the tooth are much more dangerous than X-rays in pregnancy. Therefore, if an expert insists on a procedure, it is dangerous to refuse it. But remember that in this case it is possible to take X-ray pictures of teeth if you cover your belly with a lead apron to prevent the impact of x-rays on the fetus.

How to relieve a toothache during pregnancy

Unfortunately, toothache can often occur at the most inopportune moment. If there is no possibility immediately to go to a polyclinic, try to overcome a toothache with the help of folk remedies. For example, rinse your mouth with a solution of baking soda, removing the remains of food from the cavity of the tooth.

Some help the ground cloves: a small amount of powder must be applied to the diseased tooth. Or, apply an unbroken layer of the famous Vietnamese balm "Golden Star" on the cotton wool soaked in vegetable oil and attach to the gum. Both methods should be used very carefully: both there and there are potent ethers, which can cause allergic reactions in pregnant women.

If neither the carnations nor the asterisks were at hand, then the flesh of aloe or calanchoe can be applied to the gum. Traditional medicine in such cases still offers to turn to the plantain for help: the fresh sheet is rolled up with a tourniquet until the juice is extracted from it and inserted into the ear passage from the side of the aching tooth.

To reduce acute toothache during pregnancy, you can use garlic, greasing them with the gum next to the aching tooth. Also it is possible to the wrist, on the opposite side of the one on which the tooth hurts, in the region of the pulse tie a clove of garlic, first chopping it. He helps to deal with the pain quickly enough. Similar properties have a piece of lard that needs to be held for 15 minutes between the diseased tooth and gum.

But all these methods can be used as a temporary treatment for acute toothache, for example, to wait for the morning - and then immediately to the dentist!

In order to protect your teeth as much as possible during pregnancy, you must follow a balanced diet, take complex vitamin and mineral substances prescribed by your doctor. Hygiene of the oral cavity should also be observed. After eating, brush your teeth for 2-3 minutes. It is desirable to use two pastes. The first must contain macro- and microelements (calcium, fluorine), as well as antibacterial drugs. The second is the vegetable components (chamomile, oak bark). It is also advisable to use mouth rinses. And, of course, it is important to be observed regularly at the dentist, at least 3-4 times during pregnancy.
